France’s newly appointed Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu resigned on Monday, just hours after unveiling his cabinet, the presidency confirmed. The Outgoing PM said that the conditions were not right for him to stay in office, after resigning less than a month into the job.“The conditions were not fulfilled for me to carry out my function as prime minister,” Lecornu said, denouncing the “partisan appetites” of factions who he said had forced his resignation. The move comes amid growing political instability and challenges in securing broad support for President Emmanuel Macron’s government.

Lecornu was Macron’s seventh prime minister since 2022 and had been tasked with forming a government capable of navigating a divided parliament. His cabinet was unveiled nearly a month after his appointment and was seen as an attempt to gain cross-party support while addressing political deadlock. The new lineup also included Roland Lescure, a close ally of Macron, as finance minister. French President Emmanuel Macron has faced increasing pressure from rivals who threatened to quickly topple the cabinet if it failed to demonstrate a clear break from his previous policies.
