Caught on cam: Rajasthan businessman shot dead inside gym; cops suspect Rohit Godara gang behind murder

NEW DELHI: A businessman was shot dead while exercising at a gym in Rajasthan’s Kuchaman on Tuesday morning, police said, sparking panic in the area. The incident occurred at a gym on Station Road when an unidentified gunman opened fire on 40-year-old Ramesh Rulania, who owned a bike showroom and a hotel in the city, officials added. The assailant reportedly entered the gym at around 5:20 am and shot Rulania at close range before fleeing the scene. CCTV footage captured the suspect entering the premises shortly before the attack, ASP Nemi Chand Kharia said.“Rulania was rushed to a nearby hospital by the other members of the gym where doctors declared him dead,” he ASP said.Police suspect the murder may be linked to an extortion threat Rulania reportedly received a few days ago from the Rohit Godara gang, which is active across western Rajasthan, including the Didwana-Kuchaman district. Several other businessmen in the region reportedly received similar threats recently, officials added.Police are reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas to track down the killer. Rawatram Swami, also known as Rohit Godara, a notorious gangster from Lunkaransar in Bikaner district, is suspected to be the mastermind behind the December 2022 killing of gangster Raju Thehat in Sikar. Godara’s name also emerged in the May 2022 murder of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala and the December 2023 killing of Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, both of which he claimed responsibility for.(With agencies inputs)
