NEW DELHI: From unexpected detours to outright assaults, commuters are increasingly finding that a simple ride home can spiral into chaos in Bengaluru.Over the past month, a series of alarming incidents has left passengers shaken and questioning their safety on city roads.Businessman assaulted after refusing toll detour

  • A 39-year-old businessman, Bharath Ramarao, was allegedly attacked by a cab driver after questioning why he was taken on a different route to avoid a road toll. The incident occurred on October 9 near Kempegowda International Airport.
  • Driver Mujahid Ali Mujeeb (36), also known as Mujahid Pasha, reportedly shouted at Bharath and slapped him when confronted.
  • Bharath managed to take a photo of the driver and called police (112), leading to Mujahid’s arrest by 10 pm the same day.
  • Police registered cases under multiple sections, including voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint, and criminal intimidation.
  • “Whatever the reason, assaulting someone is unlawful,” said a senior police officer.

Call centre employee attacked after cancelling ride

  • A 28-year-old woman from the northeast faced abuse and assault after cancelling an auto ride booked via an app in Kyasalahalli on October 2.
  • The driver, Pavan H. S. (21), reportedly blocked her vehicle, demanded she speak in Kannada, and hit her hand.
  • The altercation was recorded and later went viral on social media.
  • Pavan was arrested and remanded to Bengaluru Central Prison after the victim filed a formal complaint.

Social media influencer trapped during Uber ride

  • Bengaluru-based influencer Amiee shared a chilling account of an Uber ride where the driver refused to drop her at her destination and allegedly tried to force the car back to the starting point.
  • She attempted to note the vehicle number, but the car’s number plate didn’t match the Uber app.
  • Her video went viral, sparking discussions about passenger safety.
  • Uber India responded, refunded her fare, and assured strict action against the driver. The police also reached out, though she chose not to file a formal complaint.
