Watch: Woman alleges denial of entry over Indian attire; restaurant apologises, Delhi CM orders probe

NEW DELHI: A couple in Delhi has alleged that they were stopped from entering a restaurant because the woman was wearing Indian clothes. A video of the incident, recorded on August 3 at a restaurant near Pitampura metro station, has gone viral on social media. In the video, the man says his wife, who was wearing a salwar-kurta, was not allowed in. He also accuses the restaurant staff of misbehaving with them. After the video spread online, Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta took note of the matter. “A video of a ban on Indian dress at a restaurant in Pitampura has come to light. CM Rekha Gupta has taken serious note. Officers have been told to investigate and take urgent action,” Tourism and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra said in a post on X. Mishra called the incident “unacceptable” and said Delhi would not tolerate such behaviour. The restaurant later issued an apology. It said there would be no dress restrictions in the future and offered Rakshabandhan discounts for women wearing Indian attire.
