BENGALURU: Angry that a four-year-old chihuahua barked at her, a 29-year-old caretaker, Pushpalatha, smashed the dog against the floor of a lift in a Bengaluru apartment, resulting in its death.She cooked up a story that the dog collapsed and died after the lift door opened, but was arrested after CCTV from the lift revealed her crime on Oct 31.Pushpalatha has been charged with killing ‘Goofy’ and stealing a gold chain and two rings of her employer Rashika KR, a 23-year-old MBA student who stays in the flat.Hired over a month ago, Pushpalatha was paid Rs 22,000 per month along with accommodation and food to take care of two Mexican-breed dogs. On Oct 31, when Rashika was at home, Pushpalatha took ‘Goofy’ and the other dog for a walk. When she was in the lift, Goofy looked at her and barked.CCTV footage shows Pushpalatha furiously pulling the dog, threatening him, lifting him by the belt and smashing him on the lift floor, police said. The dog died on the spot.Police said the dog would be exhumed on Tuesday for postmortem.
