Oscar Piastri crashed out of the 2025 Brazilian Grand Prix Sprint at Interlagos Circuit in São Paulo, dealing a big hit to his Formula 1 title hopes. The McLaren driver was running third when he lost control on lap six at Turn 3. His car slid on a wet kerb, spun, and smashed into the barrier. The crash stopped his sprint immediately and brought out a red flag that lasted around 22 minutes while officials repaired the damaged wall. The mistake gave Lando Norris, his McLaren teammate and title rival, a perfect chance to extend his lead. Norris went on to win the sprint race and increased his championship lead to nine points over Piastri. Other drivers, including Nico Hülkenberg and Franco Colapinto, also spun at the same corner soon after Piastri. The damp track and standing water made that section of the circuit very tricky for everyone.Key drivers involved in the Brazilian GP sprint crash

How the F1 Sprint crash changed the Grand Prix and the title fight

Oscar Piastri had started the sprint in a strong third place, just behind Lando Norris and Kimi Antonelli. The track had dried slightly after earlier rain, but Turn 3 still had wet patches that caught drivers out. On lap 6, Piastri’s left-front tire touched the inside kerb, where water had built up. His car spun sideways and slammed into the barrier, ending his sprint.Moments later, Nico Hülkenberg and Franco Colapinto also lost control at the same corner, proving how slippery the spot was. The red flag came out right after Piastri’s crash, and the race was stopped for about 22 minutes. When it restarted, Lando Norris kept his lead and later won the sprint, finishing ahead of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell.McLaren’s team boss Andrea Stella told Autosport that the kerb at Turn 3 was “unforgiving and too wet for racing conditions.” He added that Piastri would “reset quickly” and come back stronger in the main race. Also Read: US Olympic Star Alex Shibutani Breaks Silence After Leaked Video Shows Tense Moment With Sister MaiaWith only a few rounds left in the 2025 season, the crash means Piastri must recover fast to keep fighting for the championship.
