5 dead after chariot hits live wire during Janmashtami procession in Hyderabad

NEW DELHI: At least five people have died and four others were injured after a chariot came into contact with live electric wires during a Krishna Janmashtami procession in Hyderabad, police said. The incident occurred late on Sunday night in the Ramanthapur area, under Uppal police station limits. Inspector of Uppal Police Station confirmed the casualties and said the injured had been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.The incident happened when the vehicle carrying the rath (chariot) stopped and around 10 people were pushing it. The electric wires on top of the rath came into contact with it, causing the shock. The bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examination. Police have launched an investigation into how the chariot came into contact with the overhead power line.
