Culprits deserve severest punishment; all Kashmiris not terrorists: Omar Abdullah

JAMMU: J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah Thursday condemned the Nov 10 Delhi blast and sought the severest punishment for the guilty but stressed that every resident of J&K is not a terrorist or terrorist sympathiser.“The brutal killing of innocent people is extremely shameful. Only a few are responsible for this attack. Not every Kashmiri is on the side of terrorists,” Omar told reporters on the sidelines of Jammu university convocation.Replying to questions about the arrest of Dr Arif Nisar Dar, who was sacked from his job at Srinagar’s SMHS Hospital in 2023 by the Lt Governor for alleged terror links, the CM asked why no legal action was taken earlier. “If you believed one had terror links and you had evidence, why didn’t you take that evidence to court to prosecute the person? Merely dismissing someone from service doesn’t solve the issue. Today, we are seeing the result of that,” he said.On white collar radicalisation, the National Conference chairman said, “Haven’t we seen university professors involved before? There is nothing new about it.”Earlier in his address to the students, Omar said, “The university has invested in you. Now it is time for you to invest in the world around you. Remember, success is not measured by what you achieve for yourself but by what you contribute to society.”
