MUMBAI: A school bus carrying six children and two staff members got stuck on a waterlogged road in Mumbai after heavy rains on Monday, officials said. Police rushed to the spot and rescued all passengers.Due to the incessant rains, schools conducting morning shifts declared a half-day, allowing students to leave early.

The private school bus remained stranded for over 30 minutes in a waterlogged spot in Mumbai’s Matunga area. Police personnel rushed to the site after being alerted and safely rescued everyone on board, an official said.The children were later taken to the Matunga Police Station for safety.Amid heavy rains that caused flooding and poor visibility in parts of the city, Mumbai Police urged citizens on X to avoid non-essential travel, plan commutes carefully, and step out only if necessary.“Our officials and staff are on high alert and ready to assist. In case of any emergency, please dial 100 / 112 / 103. Your safety always comes first,” the police said.Amid continuous heavy rains and a ‘red’ alert issued by the IMD, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced a holiday for all schools and colleges in Mumbai scheduled to operate in the second shift (post 12 noon).(With inputs from agencies)
