LUDHIANA: The family of Mandeep Kaur Grewal, a city-origin permanent resident in Canada, mourns deeply after what seemed a highway car accident in Delta revealed a chilling truth: she was allegedly murdered by her brother-in-law. The shocking charges against Gurjot Singh Khaira have left her loved ones grappling with disbelief and grief.What was initially reported as a fatal car accident also included a vehicle fire. The victim, Mandeep Kaur Grewal, 30, a permanent resident of Canada, died on the evening of Oct 26 in the 7000 block of Highway 17. Her father, Jagdeep Singh of Gujjarwal, Ludhiana, confirmed receiving the initial report that his daughter had died in an accident. However, the family has now learned that Mandeep’s brother-in-law, Gurjot Singh Khaira, 24, of Delta, has been charged in connection with her death.

Bride’s Canada ‘accident’ turns into murder case

Cops: Close Relative ‘Involved’

Mandeep had married Anmol Jeet Singh of Lodhiwal on March 11 of this year and had been living in Delta for about seven-months-and-a-half, and had been in Canada for seven years. Local sources claim that Canadian police had arrested Khaira on Nov 6, the same evening that Mandeep Kaur’s death-related prayers were held. The Delta police department of Canada stated that the circumstances surrounding the incident had appeared suspicious from the early stages, prompting an extensive investigation by their major crime section.Police Probe and ChargesOn Nov 7, Khaira was initially charged with indignity to human remains. Then, on Nov 25, Canada’s crown sounsel approved an additional charge of second-degree murder. Khaira remains in custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for Dec 11. Due to the ongoing legal proceedings, the delta police department is not releasing further details.Family in ShockThe news has sent a wave of grief and shock through Gujjarwal village, where the deceased’s family is highly respected. Jagdeep Singh has stated that the family doesn’t know the motive for the alleged killing. Mandeep’s mother, Jaswinder Kaur, is reportedly in a state of shock following her daughter’s untimely death. Mandeep’s brother is also settled in Canada.
