Rohtak bodybuilder dies after brutal attack for confronting men harassing women at Bhiwani wedding

ROHTAK: A 26-year-old Rohtak bodybuilder was allegedly attacked so brutally for confronting a group of men who were harassing women at a wedding in Bhiwani that he died of his injuries Saturday. Rohit Dhankhar of Humayunpur village travelled to Bhiwani with his friend, Jatin, to offer ‘shagun’ at the wedding of Jatin’s relative Friday.According to family, a baraat from Tigadana village arrived at the venue late at night, and some men in it allegedly began misbehaving with women. Rohit warned them, leading to an altercation. The harassers walked away. After the ceremony, Rohit and Jatin left in their car for home. They halted at a railway crossing, when the was attacked. Family members alleged nearly 20 men armed with sticks and other weapons surrounded the duo and attacked them.Both men tried to flee. Jatin managed to escape but Rohit was caught and assaulted with sticks and rods. “There wasn’t a single part of his body without injury marks,” family members said.After the attackers fled, Jatin returned with help and took Rohit to a local hospital. He was referred to PGIMS, Rohtak, in a critical condition. Despite night-long efforts by doctors, Rohit died Saturday.Bhiwani police went to PGIMS after receiving information and conducted a postmortem based on the family’s complaint. Further investigation is underway.Rohit was a professional bodybuilder and trained members at Gymkhana Club in Rohtak. Family members revealed Rohit was an international medallist, winning two gold medals in 2018. Then CM Manohar Lal Khattar had honoured him at the Independence Day ceremony that year.Rohit’s brother-in-law, Ravi Khassa, and uncle, Satish Dhanakhar, demanded the harshest punishment for the assailants. “This was a planned murder. He stood up for the dignity of women and paid with his life,” they said.
