Government bus collided head-on: 11 killed, over 20 injured in collision near Karaikudi

MADURAI: A devastating head-on collision between two govt-operated buses near Vivekananda Polytechnic College under Nachiyarpuram police station limits in Sivaganga district’s Tirupattur Utkottam claimed the lives of at least 11 people and left more than 20 injured.The accident occurred around 5:00 PM on Sunday, sending shockwaves across the region and halting evening traffic on the key route. The bus bearing registration number TN 39 N 0198 was travelling from Kangeyam towards Karaikudi, while the other bus, TN 63 N 1776, was operating the Karaikudi-Dindigul route when the catastrophic impact occurred. When both buses were nearing Vivekananda Polytechnic College, they collided head-on.Police and fire brigade services personnel immediately rushed to the scene to undertake a frantic rescue effort, extricating the trapped and rushing the critically injured to nearby medical facilities.The injured were admitted to Karaikudi Government Hospital, Tirupattur Government Hospital, and Sivaganga Government Hospitals, where they are currently receiving emergency medical attention. Senior officials, including the Sivaganga District Superintendent of Police and the Tirupattur Deputy Superintendent of Police, quickly arrived at the site to personally oversee and expedite the complex rescue operations, sources confirmed.
