Police have cited digital trails, including mobile call records, WhatsApp call logs, and transaction-related clues, as key evidence linking him to the illegal activity. The matter surfaced when a liquor trader filed a complaint, alleging that Sushil Kumar demanded money using the name of IG Y Puran Kumar. An inquiry was ordered. Meanwhile, the case gained further sensitivity as Y Puran Kumar died by suicide on Oct 7, alleging caste-based discrimination by senior officers. On Nov 22, the police formally filed the chargesheet in the court of additional district and sessions judge Kapil Rathi. “Sushil went to the liquor contractor’s office at Sector 1 in Rohtak on July 9, and his regular calls with the liquor contractor were established in the forensic science laboratory (FSL) report. Moreover, Sushil’s calls with the liquor contractor’s aide Jai Bhagwan were also established the same day,” the chargesheet reads. “In the audio recordings, Jai Bhagwan told Bansal that whatever commitment we made to Bhai Sahab, we will do, and then Bansal reverted to him, saying two have been done. Sushil asked Bansal to fulfil the commitment, which is less than the agreed amount. The investigation ascertained that Sushil demanded money in lieu of providing him security from other liquor contractors and gangsters,” the chargesheet added. According to the chargesheet, voice samples of Sushil were taken on Nov 1 when he was taken on a production warrant, and his voice samples were sent to FSL, Madhuban in Karnal on Nov 4. During the probe, police raided premises linked to Sushil Kumar, recovering electronic devices, mobile phones, and other materials. The analysis of seized digital data helped investigators piece together a clearer timeline of the alleged extortion activities. He would stay at Rohtak’s circuit house under the name of one reader, Mahesh Kumar, police said. In the chargesheet, it was revealed that he was given temporary duty with late Y Puran Kumar in 2021, but he continued to remain with the senior IPS officer without any official orders.
