South Mumbai college files complaint against guest speaker

MUMBAI: St Xavier’s College gave a written complaint to the Azad Maidan police against a guest speaker who behaved inappropriately with female students, who were volunteering for a national-level conference held early this week on the campus. The students claimed that the speaker clicked their photographs without their consent and also brushed past them inappropriately. The police is yet to take cognizance of the complaint. At least 10 students from the college had filed a complaint with the college’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) on Friday. The incident was reported to college authorities on Monday and the guest speaker was asked to leave the campus on the same day, a day before his session was scheduled. No FIR has been filed yet, but the college has notified the speaker’s parent university. The college has handed over CCTV footages to the police on Friday and will also submit the investigation report of the ICC to the police and to the parent university in the coming week. The guest speaker had sought accommodation for the two-day conference and therefore, the college had arranged for it in the hostel building.
