KIIT shock: First-year BTech student found hanging in hostel, third death on Bhubaneswar campus this year

BHUBANESWAR: The body of a first-year B Tech student at KIIT was found hanging in his hostel room, police said on Monday.The deceased has been identified as Rahul Yadav, a Computer Science student from neighbouring Chhattisgarh.“His body was found hanging in the hostel room”, assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Sonal Singh Parmar said PTI.The ACP said that the incident had taken place on Sunday, and the body was recovered by the personnel of Infocity Police Station. The family members of the deceased student were on their way to Bhubaneswar, the officer said.The ACP added that the police are probing the case from all angles to determine the cause of the student’s death.The Infocity Police immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Forensic teams visited the hostel to collect any potential evidence, while fellow students are being questioned to gather further information, officials said.This marks the third student suicide on the KIIT campus this year. The first occurred on February 16, involving a Nepalese woman, followed by another female student from Nepal who died on May 1, police sources said.BJP MLA Saroj Padhi expressed concern over the frequent student suicide cases in KIIT.“We will place a demand before the chief minister to take stringent action against the persons responsible for the death of students in KIIT,” Padhi said in the Assembly premises.
