Bengaluru-based High Court advocate Prashanth Methal has now lodged a fresh complaint against Ranveer Singh, accusing him of disrespecting the traditional Tulu spirit-worship showcased in Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara’ films. This marks the second complaint against Ranveer, who has already issued a public apology regarding the matter.According to The Hindu, the advocate filed his written complaint at the High Grounds Police Station, alleging that Ranveer mocked the sacred daiva tradition during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa on November 28.Methal further stated that the actor’s act amounted to a caricature of the revered Panjuluri/Guliga daiva, central to the cultural identity of coastal Karnataka. The complaint reportedly described the portrayal as ‘crude, derogatory, and comical’, claiming it caused ‘deep hurt’ to the sentiments of Hindus, especially those belonging to the Tulu community.Another point raised in the complaint was Ranveer’s reference to the daiva as a ‘female ghost’, which the advocate labelled ‘blasphemous’ and a show of ‘deliberate disrespect’. He has called on the police to initiate legal proceedings against the actor.This development follows a December 1 complaint filed by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), accusing Ranveer of insulting the Chavundi daiva. That complaint was filed at the Panaji police station in Goa.Amid the online backlash and the circulation of videos showing the actor mimicking the daivas, Ranveer issued an apology on social media. He clarified his intention, writing, “My intention was to highlight Rishab’s incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene in the way that he did, for which he has my utmost admiration.”He also expressed regret for hurting cultural sentiments. “I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief in our country. If I’ve hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”The controversy began when Ranveer, during his interaction with Rishab Shetty at the IFFI closing ceremony, imitated the daiva performance despite the Kannada actor reportedly requesting him not to.
