‘True culprit is my mother’: Massive twist in Punjab case, thrown into canal by father 2 months ago, ‘dead’ girl reappears

FEROZEPUR: A 17-year-old girl presumed dead for two months — after allegedly being thrown into a canal by her father — has resurfaced alive in Punjab’s Ferozepur, demanding her father’s immediate release from jail. The incident occurred on Oct 3. The father, Surjit Singh, allegedly tied his daughter’s hands and pushed her into the Rajasthan canal, due to suspicion about her character. The entire episode was filmed by Singh, and the video, which also captured the girl’s mother pleading for her life, went viral. Despite extensive searches for the body, the girl was never found. Police arrested Surjit Singh shortly after the video surfaced, and he is currently in judicial custody. The girl recently appeared on a local digital media channel. She asserted that her father was innocent and was only motivated to commit the crime by her mother’s persistent instigation. The girl is demanding that authorities release her father and take action against her mother, whom she claims is the true culprit.

However, she refused to provide details on how she escaped the canal water or where she had been hiding for the past two months. The girl said she would only disclose her full story when her father is present for the next court hearing. When media outlets contacted the mother for comment regarding her daughter’s allegations, she declined to speak. Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Ferozepur, said, “Police will first check the authenticity of the video and will only act after recording the girl’s official statement.”
