BENGALURU: The Army Service Corps (ASC), the oldest and one of the largest logistic arms of the Indian Army, marked its 265th Corps Day at ASC Centre and College in Bengaluru on Monday with a day of remembrance and tributes.“Founded in 1760, the Corps has supported every major military campaign undertaken by Indian forces. Its role has shifted over time from traditional supply lines to a modern logistics system that supports operations in high-altitude regions, deserts, forests, and active conflict zones,” ministry of defence said in a statement. Before Independence, ASC personnel received four Distinguished Service Orders and 25 Military Cross honours. After 1947, its ranks have been decorated with a Padma Bhushan, a Padma Shri, a Maha Vir Chakra, 14 Vir Chakra, five Kirti Chakra, 24 Shaurya Chakra, and 148 Sena Medal. The day began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the war memorial on campus. Lt Gen JK Gera, Commandant of ASC Centre and College, led officers and personnel in paying respects to those who died in service. He said the occasion was a reminder of the Corps’ duty to maintain high standards of service and innovation in the Army’s evolving logistics needs.A separate ceremony was held at the Animal Transport Memorial to honour the animals and handlers who served in mountain and frontier posts. These units supplied remote positions long before modern transport systems were available, often under harsh and hazardous conditions. In his address, the Commandant greeted serving personnel, veterans, and families, noting the Corps’ focus on efficiency, training, and readiness. He said ASC’s strength lies in its ability to adapt to new technologies while ensuring reliable support for field formations and humanitarian missions.“The Corps Day observance closed with a reaffirmation of ASC’s longstanding motto, “Seva Asmakam Dharma”, reflecting its commitment to service and support across the Army,” the statement read.
