VIJAYAPURA/ BAGALKOT: A flood-like situation prevails across Krishna River basin as incessant rainfall continues in the region. The two district administrations have set up care centres and shifted affected people to safer places. As much as 2.5 lakh cusecs of water is being released from Almatti dam.Sources in Krishna Bhagya Jal Nigam Ltd Almatti Dam said the average inflow of water was 1.6 lakh cusecs, and the present outflow was 2.5 lakh cusecs at 6pm on Wednesday. There is fear that Masuti village will be completely submerged if the outflow is increased to 5 lakh cusecs.Due to continuous rainfall over the past few days, water levels in rivers Krishna, Ghataprabha, and Malaprabha have risen, leading to a flood-like situation. A relief centre has been opened in Mirji village of Mudhol taluk, said Bagalkot DC Sangappa. Shweta MB, assistant commissioner, Jamkhandi, said the discharge from Krishna River at Rajapur barrage was 1.4 lakh cusecs at 5pm. At Narayanpur Dam, the inflow is likely to increase, and is expected to reach 2.6 lakh cusecs.
