'Not prepared for exams': Class 11 boy issues bomb threat in Uttarakhand school to force holiday; detained

RUDRAPUR: A Class 11 student from a private school in Udham Singh Nagar’s Bazpur was detained on Friday after allegedly posting a bomb threat on the institute’s official website. He later confessed that he had issued the fake threat to get the school closed as he was unprepared for exams. The incident comes days after a Class 9 student in Kashipur opened fire at his teacher after being scolded for not completing homework.Police said an anonymous message warning of a bomb blast was posted in the feedback section of the school’s website on Friday morning. The management immediately alerted Bazpur police, and within minutes, teams accompanied by the bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs reached the campus for an intensive search but they did not find anything suspicious. As the news spread, panic gripped the area and anxious parents rushed to the school to take their children home. “The safety of our children comes first. Such incidents are extremely disturbing,” said a parent outside the school gates.Later, authorities traced the ID used to post the message and identified it as belonging to one of the school’s students. “He admitted he had not studied for his exams and planned this to force a holiday. We have handed him over to the police,” said Inderpreet Barar, secretary of the school’s management committee.Bazpur police station in-charge Praveen Singh Koshyari said, “The bomb threat was false, but it created unnecessary panic. The student has been detained, and counselling will also be arranged. Police are fully alert, and the law and order situation is under control.”
