Air India flights diverted: Bad weather affects 2 UK-bound planes; airline issues statement

NEW DELHI: Two Air India flights bound for the UK were diverted due to adverse weather conditions, forcing one aircraft to divert and another to delay landing, the airline said on Thursday.Flight AI131 operating from Mumbai to London Heathrow was diverted to London Gatwick on 9 January after poor weather conditions made landing at Heathrow unsafe. The aircraft landed safely at Gatwick, and passengers were provided assistance following the diversion, an Air India spokesperson said.In a separate incident, flight AI117 flying from Amritsar to Birmingham was unable to land at its destination airport because of similar weather-related issues. The aircraft was required to hold in the air as conditions remained unfavourable.Air India said the disruptions were caused entirely by adverse weather at the destination airports. The airline added that it was extending all necessary support to affected travellers as per standard procedures. “Flight AI131 operating from Mumbai to London Heathrow was diverted to London, Gatwick on 9 January due to adverse weather conditions at the destination airport. The aircraft had landed safely at Gatwick and all passengers were extended assistance. Similarly, AI117 operating from Amritsar to Birmingham could not land at the destination airport and had to hold due to adverse weather conditions,” Air India Spokesperson said.
