Ayodhya tightens food curbs: Non-veg delivery banned within 15 km of Ram temple; hotels, vendors warned

AYODHYA: The Ayodhya administration has banned the delivery of non-vegetarian food items in a radius of 15Km of the Ram temple, following “complaints regarding the food delivery companies supplying non-veg foods in the periphery of Ayodhya town, that is marked under ‘paanch kosi parikrama’ area”.A warning has been issued to hotels and homestays that were serving non-veg food and alcoholic drinks guests.Ayodhya assistant food commissioner Manik Chandra Singh said, “We received complaints that, despite a previously imposed ban, non-vegetarian food was being served to tourists through online orders. Following this, a ban was imposed on online non-vegetarian deliveries as well.”“All hotels, shopkeepers and delivery companies have been informed of the ban order. Continuous monitoring would be done by the administration to ensure compliance,” he said.Over two dozen licensed liquor shops still exist on the Ram Path despite a motion adopted by the municipal corporation last May to ban the sale of liquor and meat on the 14-kilometre stretch of Ram Path. An AMC official said, “We have tried to remove the meat shops on Ram Path even in Faizabad city, but for removing liquor shops from Ram Path, we have to take permission from the district administration.”
