'Operation Hawkeye Strike': US carries out 'large-scale' airstrikes on Syria; targets ISIS

US and allied forces carried out large-scale strikes against the Islamic State jihadist group across Syria on Saturday, the US military said, in response to an attack last month that killed three Americans.US Central Command said the strikes were part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, which was launched after a deadly attack on December 13 in Palmyra, Syria, targeting US and Syrian forces.In a statement posted on X, Central Command said “The strikes today targeted ISIS throughout Syria” and described the operation as being “in direct response to the deadly ISIS attack on US and Syrian forces in Palmyra, Syria.”The military said the operation involved both US and allied forces and focused on Islamic State targets across the country.
