Despite the oft-repeated assurance by the Muhammad Yunus-led Bangladesh interim govt to protect minorities, atrocities on Hindus continue, with a 23-year-old car mechanic, Chanchal Chandra Bhowmik, burnt to death after his workshop in Narsingdi was set on fire while he was asleep. The incident on Friday night was not accidental but a planned act of arson, locals told police, which said a team has been formed to arrest the accused. Chanchal after finishing work used to sleep inside the workshop, police said and added that as per CCTV camera footage, “several individuals were seen setting fire to the workshop”. Locals claimed that this reinforces suspicions that the killing was deliberate. Trapped inside with the shutters locked, Chanchal screamed for help but was unable to escape.
