FBI agents carried out a search at the Fulton County elections office near Atlanta on Wednesday, officials said.An FBI spokesperson confirmed that agents were executing a “court-authorised law enforcement action” at the county’s main elections office in Union City, south of Atlanta. The search comes at a time when the FBI, under Director Kash Patel, has stepped up actions aligned with concerns raised by President Donald Trump, including investigations involving people he has described as political adversaries.Trump has repeatedly claimed that the 2020 presidential election was stolen, despite court rulings across the country and findings by his own former attorney general that found no evidence of widespread wrongdoing that changed the result. Democrat Joe Biden won that election.Georgia, a key battleground state Trump lost, has remained central to his claims. After the election, Trump publicly urged the state’s then secretary of state to “find” enough votes to reverse his defeat.Last week, Trump said that “people will soon be prosecuted” over the 2020 election. In 2023, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis secured an indictment against Trump and 18 others over efforts to overturn the election results. The case was dismissed in November after courts barred Willis and her office due to an appearance of impropriety.
