'Jana Nayagan' censor row: Makers to withdraw the case in a major shift in the battle over Thalapathy Vijay’s final film
The makers of Thalapathy Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan are withdrawing their case for a censor certificate. This marks a significant shift in the ongoing saga. They are now considering either a re-examination by the censor board or continuing the legal battle. This decision moves the focus from a judicial route to an executive solution.

Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan,’ his last film before taking the plunge into active politics, was planned for a January 9 Pongal release but was muffled in censor woes due to the non-receiving of a censor board certificate. This resulted in a stir of controversy and confusion among his die-hard fans. Then came the surprising news that the makers of the film are mulling over withdrawing their case for the censor certificate, which results in a new twist in the ongoing saga. What began as a legal battle involving the censor board, court orders, and appeals has now taken a new direction with the producers choosing to step back from the judicial route.

‘Jana Nayagan’ makers step back, new route considered

It is in this context that, as the reports go, the makers have made a decision to withdraw the case altogether. As per Nakkheeran, they are looking forward to either going through the re-examination process with the censor board or continuing the court battle until it is over. The source points out that with this, the filmmakers have opted for an executive solution instead of a legal one. Through this decision, the movie ‘Jana Nayagan’ will enter a new phase, where its release schedules, censoring processes, and meaning as Vijay’s last film, this time before politics, are suddenly going to be the center of attention for everyone, including the media. An official announcement is expected soon.

‘Jana Nayagan’ legal battles and appeals

Earlier, the production house had moved the Madras High Court seeking censor clearance for the film. Justice Asha, a single judge, directed the censor board to grant a U/A certificate. The censor board moved against this order, which was adjourned with an interim stay. The matter has now reached the Supreme Court, which has refused to entertain it and asked the production house to go back to the High Court. So, the matter now reverted to the Madras High Court, and there is no clarity on the matter.

‘Jana Nayagan’ faces further delays

Meanwhile, the High Court said that the previous order has to be set aside and the case will have to be heard again with fresh orders passed by the single judge after hearing it afresh. This means the case has to be heard again by the single judge once again with the entire process starting afresh. Due to the various appeals, procedural formalities involved, and the intervention of the censor board, it is said that the filmmakers were wondering whether the film would be stuck without a release for months, creating a stage of considerable uncertainty.Disclaimer: This report is based on current judicial filings and reports from legal correspondents. As the matter is sub judice before the Supreme Court of India, all information regarding hearing dates and film certification is subject to change based on the court’s official orders.
