Operation Trashi-I enters Day 13, net suspended in Kishtwar

JAMMU: A joint team of security forces continued combing the forests in the snowbound Chatroo belt in J&K’s Kishtwar district to track and kill holed-up ultras under Operation Trashi-I, which entered its 13th day Friday. As a precautionary measure, district authorities suspended mobile internet services temporarily in the region.Meanwhile, a fresh counter-terrorism operation was launched in Pajja Morh, Nabana Top, and adjoining areas in Surankote, Poonch district, following information about the presence of two terror suspects. No contact had yet been established with the suspects, and the operation was ongoing, officials said.An order issued Thursday by Principal Secretary, Home Department, Chandraker Bharti, under relevant provisions of Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2024, and Telecommunication Act, 2023, announced the suspension of mobile internet services of all generations (2G/3G/4G/5G) within a 6km radius covering Singhpora, Chingam and Chatroo belts in Kishtwar till 12am on Jan 30 to prevent misuse by terrorists, officials said.Under Operation Trashi-I, the first fire exchange between troops and terrorists occurred in Sonnar village near Mandral-Singhpora on Jan 18, in which eight security personnel were injured, one of whom eventually succumbed. On Jan 22, another gunfight broke out with holed-up ultras in Singhpora. Yet another firefight followed on Jan 24, in which a Pakistani Jaish terrorist was shot dead.
