'Film stars come and go': Piyush Goyal plays down actor Vijay’s impact on Tamil Nadu polls

NEW DELHI: Union minister and BJP’s Tamil Nadu election in-charge Piyush Goyal on Saturday dismissed any impact of actor Vijay in the upcoming assembly elections in the state saying, “we have seen many film stars come and go.”“I do not know what impact he will have on the elections. We have seen many film stars come and go. Having fan following and converting them into votes is a totally different story,” Goyal told PTI in an interview, adding that there was no need for the BJP to woo the actor as they come and go.“You need organisation, you need people’s understanding and confidence in you as an administrator. We have seen many film stars, we have seen Kamal Haasan come without any impact” he added.Goyal further expressed confidence about the BJP’s prospects in Tamil Nadu as part of the AIADMK-led NDA alliance, claiming that the ruling DMK is facing strong anti-incumbency.“There is so much anti-incumbency against the DMK government. It is an incompetent and terribly corrupt government. Udhayanidhi Stalin (Tamil Nadu Deputy CM) represents a totally anti-Tamil culture and anti-India stance. Tamil culture never spoke in the kind of language that he is using. Tamil culture teaches us tolerance. It teaches us to celebrate different viewpoints, different thinking, different ideologies and different religions,” he said.He alleged that differences within the DMK’s alliance were becoming increasingly visible.“Prime Minister Modi never discriminates between people. He gives benefits to all, irrespective of the time of the year or the election period. There is a huge anti-incumbency against the DMK-led government. The discordant notes among their alliance partners are also visible,” he said.“I am very confident that the AIADMK-led NDA alliance, in which the BJP is an important partner, is going to win this election and would bring back good governance,” he added.
