Explosive ‘candy’ injures 3-year-old girl in Rajasthan; shopkeeper detained

ALWAR: A three-year-old girl suffered serious injuries to her mouth and jaw after an explosive, allegedly given to her as candy by a shopkeeper, went off in her mouth in Chowki Bas village of Alwar’s Ramgarh area.The incident occurred when the child, Akshu, went to a local grocery shop with her elder sister to buy candy. Family members alleged that the shopkeeper handed her an explosive disguised as candy. As soon as the child chewed it, a loud blast occurred, causing severe injuries to her jaw and cheek.

Bleeding heavily, the girl collapsed and was rushed to a private hospital in Alwar, where doctors performed surgery. Hospital authorities said the operation was successful and the child is currently out of danger. A complaint was filed at Ramgarh police station by the child’s aunt against the shopkeeper, identified as Sudil alias Kala. ASP Kamble Sharan Gopinath (IPS) confirmed that the girl had taken candy from a shop in Ramgarh which exploded in her mouth. He said the shopkeeper has been detained for questioning and an investigation is underway.
