Toxic trade in Mumbai: Vendors caught applying rat poison to fruits in Malad; viral video sparks outrage

MUMBAI: Malad police have arrested two local fruit vendors for applying rat poison to fruits before sale, risking the lives of people. The vendors claimed they were applying poison to the fruits so that rodents do not eat them in godowns or on fruit carts.The case came to light when citizens from Malad caught the two fruit vendors, Manoj Kumar Kesarvani and Vipin Kesarvani, in the act at Rajanpada on Tuesday night. They shot a video clip of the duo using the rat poison, which quickly went viral and sparked outrage.

A citizen, Kunal Salunke, informed Malad police around 9 pm, following which an FIR was registered against the duo under provisions of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and they were taken into custody.
