COIMBATORE: A spurned lover attacked a 25-year-old woman with a sickle near Kuniyamuthur in the city on Saturday evening. This is for the second time that S Dinesh, 30, of Salem is attacking the woman whom he had befriended on a social media site.The injured woman resides on the Rice Mill Road in Kuniyamuthur. Police said Dinesh followed her while she was going to a grocery store near her home on Saturday evening. The woman suffered head injuries and was admitted to a private hospital in Kuniyamuthur, where her condition is stable.According to sources, the woman and Dinesh became friends via Instagram in 2020. Dinesh fell in love with her and asked her to accept his love. However, she refused his proposal and blocked his mobile number. On July 11, 2022, Dinesh travelled to Coimbatore and visited a car showroom where she was working. He picked up a quarrel with her and, in a fit of rage, he stabbed her with a knife. Other staff members caught him and handed him over to the Race Course police, who filed a case and remanded him in judicial custody. Now on bail, he stalked her and assaulted her from behind with a sickle. The Kuniyamuthur police registered a case and launched efforts to nab him.
