Govt works for Indians' safety in Gulf, Congress risking lives: PM Modi

PALAKKAD/NEW DELHI: PM Modi on Sunday said that while his govt was working to ensure safety of Indians in Gulf nations amid the West Asia conflict, Congress, for political gains, was making “dangerous” remarks on the situation, putting Indians living there at “risk”.He also asked his opponents to desist from politicising the crisis, saying there is no place for “self-serving politics” in these challenging times as this is a matter concerning the interests of 140 crore citizens.Govt working to minimise crisis impact on India: PMLaunching the BJP-led NDA’s poll campaign at a rally in Kerala’s Palakkad, Modi said many people from the state are working in regions hit by the conflict and “for us their safety remains a top priority”. “Govt is working towards ensuring the crisis impact on India is minimal,” he said.However, he said, the people must remember the kind of statements Congress is making on sensitive issue of the conflict situation, terming the party “dangerous”. The PM added, “Congress wants the lives of nearly one crore Indians living in Gulf countries to be put at risk, so that it can gain political advantage from it.”Slamming NDA’s opponents — governing LDF and UDF — Modi alleged Kerala has been trapped for decades between the two fronts which have indulged in self-centered politics. “Between LDF and UDF, Congress and Communists, one is corrupt and the other is highly corrupt, communal and highly communal. The policies of LDF and UDF are for vote-bank politics,” he said as he recalled “so many of our workers have lost their lives due to political violence here”. “I pay my tributes to them,” Modi said.In his monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, he slammed the opposition for spreading rumours, saying it is causing major harm to the country. He asked people to be vigilant and not be misled and said they should only trust the information being provided by govt.Some opposition leaders have said govt may impose a lockdown to handle the crisis and will go for jacking up fuel prices after the assembly polls are over, claims which have been denied by the Centre.“As always, I am confident that just as we have overcome past crises with the strength of our 140 crore citizens, this time too, we will together emerge victorious from this difficult situation,” Modi said.
