An old video from the 1990s is doing the rounds, where former Pakistani batter Basit Ali can be seen trying to outsmart everyone, including the on-field umpire.In a match against Zimbabwe, Basit Ali gave charge to a left-arm spinner and was bamboozled. Instead of walking back, he put the bails back on and stood his ground. Even the on-field umpires gave him not out. Zimbabwe wicketkeeper Andy Flower looked miffed and only after persisting, the decision was sent upstairs, where the third umpire adjudged Basit Ali out.Basit’s on-field reaction left the commentators in a fix, who lambasted the batter for his lack of sportsmanship.Basit Ali played 19 Tests and 50 ODIs for Pakistan.Recently, the 54-year-old has been in the news for making a scathing attack on the Pakistan cricket team and requesting the Indian cricket team to boycott the Asia Cup.“I pray India refuses to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, just like how they did at the World Championships of Legends. Itni buri tarah maarenge na vo, ki aapki soch hai (They will beat us so badly you can’t even imagine),” Basit said on The Game Plan YouTube channel.

“If we lose to Afghanistan, no one would care much in this country. But everyone goes mad the moment you lose to India,” he added.The upcoming Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in the UAE, will be played in the T20 format, serving as preparation for next year’s T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
