Veteran actor Achyut Potdar, who has been a part of several successful Bollywood films and TV shows passed away on August 18, 2025, at the age of 91. He took his last breath at Jupiter Hospital in Thane. The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed. His passing marks a significant loss for the Indian film industry.As per reports in the media, the veteran actor was hospitalised at Jupiter Hospital in Thane after facing health issues. Unfortunately, he passed away on Monday. His final rites are scheduled to take place on August 19, 2025, in Thane. Over the years, Achyut made his mark by appearing in numerous Hindi and Marathi films as well as television shows.Several leading Marathi GEC TV channels paid a tribute to the late actor on their social media accounts, confirming the news of his demise.Besides movies like 3 Idiots, Ardh Satya, and Yeh Dillagi, he was also seen in popular television shows including Wagle Ki Duniya, Majha Hoshil Na, Mrs. Tendulkar, Bharat Ki Khoj, among others.For the uninitiated, Achyut Potdar was not a trained actor; in fact, he entered films at the age of 44 without any formal training. After completing his graduation, he worked as a professor in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, before enlisting in the Indian Army. Less than a year after his marriage, Potdar joined the Army through the Emergency Commission. When his tenure ended, he retired in 1967 with the rank of captain. He later worked for 25 years as an executive at Indian Oil and retired in 1992 at the age of 58. While at Indian Oil, Potdar actively participated in theatrical projects, plays, and cultural activities, which nurtured his passion for acting. Eventually, he made his film debut with the Hindi movie Aakrosh in 1980.
