'We don't expect but...': White House checks with Ukraine officials if Zelenskyy can wear a suit today
Ukraine officials said Zelenskyy won’t wear a suit today in his meeting with Trump but will wear the black jacket that he wore to Nato summit.

After the disaster of a meeting that took place in February, and with the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s outfit contributing a lot to it, the White House checked with Ukrainian officials whether Zelenskyy was planning to wear a suit for his meeting with President Donald Trump, Axios reported. But Zelenskyy who dresses up in the spirit adhering to the ongoing war will not wear any suit but his black jacket that he wore to a Nato summit in the Netherlands in June which looks like a suit, Axios reported, citing a source. Axios reported that the Nato summit was the first time Zelenskyy wore something business-like since the war started in 2022 and Trump apparently liked that dress. “Zelensky came like a normal human being, not crazy, and was dressed like a somebody that should be at NATO. … So they had a good conversation,” a US official told Axios at the time.Vice president JD Vance last time was displeased with Zelenskyy’s appearance and attitude and the fact that he was not wearing a suit and a tie. A Trump aide told Axios that if Zelenskyy wears a suit and tie Monday, it would be a great gesture towards peace though the White House does not expect him to do. “The tie thing was a JD thing when it first happened,” the insider told Axios. It is confirmed that Zelenskyy won’t wear a tie. When Zelenskyy was welcomed to the White House in February, Trump made jabs about his military-style attire and said, “He’s all dressed up today”. The last meeting turned into a shouting match and JD Vance accused Zelenskyy of not being grateful towards Trump for his mediation and peace initiative. But the stand-off melted with both Zelenskyy and Trump willing to bridge the gaps. “They’ve traveled very, very far, both of them. Zelensky will not show him pictures of dead children and then act like it’s somehow his fault. The president has learned to just sort of like, you know, file away any irritations and go forward,” a Trump advisor told Axios.
