'My wife is asking for her child': UP man walks into DM office with dead newborn in bag; pleads with officials to revive baby

BAREILLY: It was a usual day at the district magistrate’s office in Lakhimpur Kheri on Friday when suddenly the staff was petrified to see a 30-year-old man walking in with his dead newborn child packed in a handbag and pleading with almost every official to bring his child back to life.An inconsolable Vipin Gupta cried loudly and alleged that his child died after a private hospital administered the wrong medicine to his wife, Rubi Gupta. He frantically repeated one sentence, “My wife is asking for her child. What will I tell her?” DM Durga Shakti Nagpal said she will be taking care of the entire medical expenses of the woman, who is now stable.Chief development officer Abhishek Singh told TOI, “Following a preliminary inspection, we have ordered the immediate sealing of the hospital after finding some lapses. A thorough investigation has been initiated, and all patients have been safely shifted to the district hospital. The district administration stands in solidarity with the grieving family during this difficult time.”Meanwhile, Gupta told TOI, “On Thursday night, my brother-in-law and his wife rushed Rubi to a private hospital. I was in Haridwar for some work, and I got a call at midnight that Rubi’s condition was worsening. The hospital staff asked for Rs 10,000 for a normal delivery and Rs 12,000 for some minor operation. We began arranging the money. In the meantime, we deposited Rs 8,000 and requested the doctors to start treatment, but they refused.“I requested them to let us take my wife to another hospital, but they kept asking for money. When my wife’s condition deteriorated, they sent her out and made her stand on the road, citing that they had referred her. She was rushed to another private hospital, where doctors said the child had died in the womb, attributing the tragedy to ‘incorrect medication’ allegedly administered by the first hospital,” said Gupta.
