Over 6,000 to benefit from Delhi's new school nutrition drive; students lead the way: Here’s how

As lifestyle diseases and poor dietary habits are emerging as significant challenges among young Indians, equipping children with knowledge about nutrition has never been more critical. In response, Amway India, in collaboration with the Nourishing Schools Foundation, has launched a school nutrition education programme in Delhi, aiming to integrate food literacy into daily learning and empower children to become ambassadors of healthy living. It’s high time students and schools become the first line of defence for a healthier generation.

Nutrition as a foundation for lifelong habits

Set to be implemented across six government and non-governmental organisation-run schools in the national capital, the initiative is expected to benefit over 6,000 people, including around 1,500 children, in its first year. By weaving nutrition learning into games, classroom activities, and specially designed toolkits, the programme seeks to make the science of healthy eating tangible and engaging for students. Teachers, too, will receive training to reinforce these lessons, ensuring that the knowledge extends beyond textbooks and into everyday practice.

Students as agents of change

At the launch, officials from the Delhi education department, educators, and representatives from non-profit organisations came together to discuss the critical role schools play in shaping dietary habits. Students took center stage, presenting their ideas on nutrition and wellbeing, demonstrating how young learners can become advocates for healthier lifestyles within their families and communities.

A model for the future

Beyond immediate benefits, the programme represents a larger shift in how education can address real-world challenges. By combining classroom learning with practical interventions, it not only fosters critical thinking and responsibility but also cultivates a generation of students who understand the profound link between nutrition, health, and wellbeing. In classrooms where knowledge meets action, the seeds of change are being sown, and in Delhi, over 6,000 individuals are set to reap the benefits.(with PTI inputs)
