’18 accounts, 28 FD’s’: Delhi court dismisses anticipatory bail plea of godman wanted for fraud | Delhi News

Delhi Police Hunt Professor Over Sexual Harassment Claims, Fake UN Number Plate On Luxury Car

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Friday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Chaitanyananda Saraswati, alias Parthasarathy, in a case of alleged cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy. He also faces a case of allegedly sexually harassing 17 female students at a private institute in Delhi, called Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management Research, where he was the director. Chaitanyananda is on the run. Police said they have frozen approximately Rs 8 crore across 18 accounts and 28 fixed deposits linked to a trust he had established. The investigating officer said in court that the swami’s mobile phone was switched off. Additional sessions judge Hardeep Kaur said the investigation is at a nascent stage. Denying bail, she said that the IO requires custodial interrogation of the suspect to establish the chain of fraud, cheating, conspiracy and misappropriation of funds. The case was registered against Chaitanyananda at Vasant Kunj (North) police station on the complaint by P A Murali, who alleged that the godman and others were involved in conspiracy, forgery, impersonation and misappropriation of properties and funds belonging to Peetham, the body which runs Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management Research. The investigation has shown that Chaitanyananda created a trust, Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management Research Foundation Trust, to fraudulent disburse properties of the institute. There are also allegation that he fabricated All India Council for Technical Education records and operated accounts with Union Bank of India under two different names. The court said the godman allegedly forged documents and obtained passports under two names — Swami Parthasarathy and Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati — by providing fake details. In the application for the first passport, he listed his father’s name as Swami Gahananda Puri and his mother’s name as Shrada Amba. For the second passport, he claimed his father was Swami Dayananda Saraswati and his mother was Sharada Ambal. His place of birth was recorded as Darjeeling in the first passport, and a place in Tamil Nadu in the second. The investigation also uncovered that he furnished different documents containing varying personal details when opening the bank accounts and when transferring one of them to another branch. (The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
