Elon Musk once crashed a $1 million McLaren F1 sports car, but that wasn’t the worst part

Elon Musk once lost control of his McLaren F1 sports car and crashed it on Sand Hill Road in California. While the car was worth about $1 million, but that was not the worst part. The worst part was that it was not insured. The Tesla CEO had bought the silver McLaren in 1999 after selling his first startup, Zip2, to Compaq for an estimated $20 million. Instead of buying a mansion or a holiday home, he chose an 1,800-square-foot condo in Palo Alto and spent big on the sports car. According to a Benzinga report, CNN cameras were there when the car was delivered. Standing beside him was his girlfriend at the time, Justine Wilson, who later became his first wife. Speaking to CNN, she said, “It’s a million dollars for a car. It’s decadent. My fear is that we lose a sense of appreciation and perspective.”
