Madhya Pradesh: 19-year-old woman dies while dancing with husband at Garba event

KHARGONE: A 19-year-old woman died on Sunday while dancing with her husband at a Garba pandal in the Bhikangaon subdivision of Khargone district in Madhya Pradesh. The police were not informed of the incident, which was captured in a video that went viral on social media.The video shows the woman dancing on a stage in front of the idol of Goddess Durga before her husband joined her. Suddenly, the woman fainted and fell to the ground. Some spectators believed she was acting and began laughing.Her husband bent down to examine her and, finding no movement, took her to a hospital, where a doctor declared her dead. The incident caused a commotion within the pandal. The deceased was identified as 19-year-old Sonam Yadav.Hawsi Lal Yadav, president of Rashtriya Kisan Majdoor Sangh Bhikangaon area and a resident of Palasi village, told TOI that they had arranged a religious gathering after the establishment (ghat sthapana) of the idol of Goddess Durga at Sant Singaji temple during Navratri. “The unfortunate incident, which took place after the arti, has shaken all of us,” he added.Sonam’s husband, Krishnpal Yadav, told TOI, “We were married in May, and there was no health problem with her at all. On Sunday, she went to Singaji temple for the first time and while dancing to a film song in front of the goddess with me, suddenly, she fell down at around 10:30 pm. We immediately took her to a private hospital in Bhikangaon, 6 km away, from where she was referred to a govt hospital. The doctor who examined her outside the hospital declared her dead.Yadav works at a grocery shop in Bhikangaon. Sonam’s maternal house is situated at Temla, just 6 km away from Palasi, where she was married to Krishnpal.Krishnpal’s uncle, Shambhu Yadav, told TOI, “Since she died in full public view, and no one suspected anything, her last rites were performed on Monday without a post-mortem.”Meanwhile, Bhikangaon Police Station in-charge Gulab Singh Rawat told TOI that the police have not received formal information about the incident and only learnt about it through social media.
