Agra: 5 of family members dead as MUV hits truck parked near dhaba; 1 critical

AGRA: Five members of a family from Haryana’s Karnal and their driver died after their MUV rammed into a truck parked outside a dhaba on Panipat-Khatima highway under Titavi police station of Muzaffarnagar on Wednesday morning. Another family member suffered serious injuries.The family was on their way to Haridwar to immerse the ashes of the head of the family who had died of illness a few days ago. Emergency services shifted the victims to hospital, where they were declared dead.Assistant regional transport officer Susheel Kumar Mishra said, “The accident happened as the truck was wrongfully parked.”Phugana DSP Ruplai Rao said the truck driver fled and that a police team was searching for him. Titavi SHO Pawan Kumar said, “A case will be registered once we receive a police complaint.”District magistrate Umesh Mishra and SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma also inspected the accident spot. Police have informed the relatives and have launched an investigation.Rajesh Kumar, an eyewitness, said, “The truck was parked on the roadside, and the speeding Maruti Ertiga rammed into it from behind. Local people rushed to the spot, broke the MUV windows and pulled out the victims. An ambulance arrived quickly and rushed them to hospital.”The victims have been identified as Mohini, 50, wife of late Mahendra Juneja, who died of illness a few days ago; their son Piyush Juneja, 20; Mahendra’s sisters Anju Devi, 51, and Vimmi Devi, 52; brother-in-law Rajendra Kumar, 58, and car driver Shiva Kumar, 35.Another son of Mahendra Juneja, Hardik, suffered severe injuries and was referred to Muzaffarnagar district hospital. The family was from Faridpur village in Karnal.According to a relative of the family, “Piyush Juneja and Rajendra Kumar were in the handloom business in Panipat after the death of the former’s father.”
