NAGPUR/AMRAVATI: Kamaltai Gavai, mother of CJI Bhushan Gavai, on Wednesday released a statement from Amravati, confirming she won’t attend the Sangh’s centenary event on October 5, citing health reasons. Social media was abuzz with Gavai’s acceptance of the RSS invite.Kamaltai Gavai said she’s dedicated to the Ambedkarite ideology and always believed in putting forward these views to those who did not agree. She went on to say that her late husband, Dadasaheb, also believed in participating in such events and using the platform to push Ambedkar’s thoughts. “He would purposely go to such events and speak on issues related to those from socio-economic backward strata,” wrote Kamaltai. She said while her husband would join RSS events, “he never accepted or embraced Hindutva”. It takes courage and conviction to stand on a podium, where there is opposition to one’s ideology, and take a stand on your beliefs, she said.Kamaltai Gavai added that if she participated in the October 5 event, she would have put forth her views too. Referring to the controversy, Gavai said some people known to her visited her house with the Sangh invite. “We have good relations with everyone and welcomed them too,” wrote Gavai. She said after her late husband was dragged into the controversy after a news report, she was deeply hurt by the defamatory statements.She ended the statement saying she’s now 84 years old and unwell. “I won’t be attending the event, this much is true,” said Kamaltai.
