NEW DELHI: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday visited BJP MP Khagen Murmu at a private hospital in Siliguri, where he is being treated after being attacked in Nagarkata during his visit to flood and landslide-hit areas in north Bengal. TMC sources said Banerjee also spoke to doctors and assured Murmu of full support from the state government. Speaking to the reporters outside the hospital, Banerjee said, “I have received all the details. His blood sugar is high and needs to be controlled. I wished him a speedy recovery.” Murmu was attacked on Monday, allegedly by a group of miscreants, while speaking with local residents in a disaster-affected area. BJP MLA Sankar Ghosh was also assaulted during the incident. According to eyewitnesses, stones were pelted at Murmu’s car, leaving him with severe head injuries.Visuals from the scene showed the MP bleeding profusely, with his face and clothes soaked in blood. The attack has sparked a political war of words, with the BJP accusing the TMC of being behind the assault. The ruling party, in turn, alleged that BJP leaders were using the crisis for publicity in the flood-hit regions. Also read: Jalpaiguri attack backlash: BJP protests against TMC government in Kolkata; MP Khagen Murmu still in ICUMeanwhile, the BJP leaders on Tuesday protested against the attack. They were marching towards Banga Bhawan on Hailey Road, but were stopped by the police at a barricade.Addressing the protesters, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said the attack was a result of Mamata Banerjee’s appeasement politics. “Appeasement politics has blinded Mamata Banerjee. This time, the people of Bengal will give her a befitting reply,” he said, referring to the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
