Prithvi Shaw will play for Maharashtra in this year’s Ranji Trophy.

Discarded India opener Prithvi Shaw has made a bold statement ahead of the 2025-26 domestic season with a scintillating hundred against his former team, Mumbai, in a warm-up fixture. The 25-year-old, who had moved to Maharashtra from Mumbai, reached his 100-run mark off just 140 balls.Shaw put on 305 runs for the opening wicket with Arshin Kulkarni before Shams Mulani broke the partnership.Prithvi brought up his fifty off 84 balls and reached his hundred in 144 deliveries. The right-hander looked assured against both pace and spin on an excellent batting surface at the MCA International Cricket Ground.Shaw scored 186 runs before Shams Mulani finally managed to dismiss the swashbuckling batter.Earlier, Shaw took his first step towards making a comeback to the Indian cricket with an aggressive century on his Maharashtra debut on a Chennai turner, which also offered variable bounce to spinners, against Chhattisgarh in the Buchi Babu tournament.Rated as a highly talented batsman when he started out, Shaw, who made a sensational Test debut when he scored a century (134) against West Indies in 2018 at Rajkot at the age of 18, played the last of his five Tests (339 runs@42.37, including two half-centuries too) at Adelaide (pink-ball Test) in 2020. He has featured in six ODIs and one T20 International, and last played a white-ball match for India in July 2021.
