NEW DELHI: A woman, aged in her 30s, has been booked for allegedly using an electric iron to inflict burn injuries on her five-year-old stepdaughter at their house in central Delhi’s Chandni Mahal.Police received a PCR call from the girl’s father reporting the incident in the early hours of Sunday. In his complaint, the man, who runs a chicken shop in Ghazipur Mandi, said he has a daughter from his first marriage, which ended in divorce. His second wife, he alleged, had been tormenting and physically abusing the girl for some time.The complainant told police that around 1.30am Sunday, while he was on his way home from work, he received a phone call from a neighbour reporting loud cries of a child coming from his house. He immediately rushed home to find his daughter in distress. Upon inspection, he said he found burn injuries on her legs, with the skin peeled off in several places. The girl told him her stepmother had caused the burns, he said in his complaint.The man then took the child to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for emergency treatment. A case was registered red under Section 118 (causing hurt) of BNS and Section 75 of Juvenile Justice Act, and questioned the woman too.
