While the design of the new MacBook Pro remains unchanged, maintaining the familiar black and silver colour options, the core upgrade is the M5 chip, which features a 10-core GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core, translating directly into enhanced speed for AI workloads. Apple claims the chip makes AI tasks up to 3.5 times faster than the previous generation. For users upgrading from older machines, the performance gains are substantial:

  • AI Performance: Up to 86 times faster than older Intel-based MacBooks and six times faster than M1 models.

  • CPU Speed: Apple claims the M5 chip delivers the world’s fastest CPU.
  • Code Compiling and Gaming: Code compiling in Xcode receives a 2.1x speed boost, and gaming frame rates jump up to 3.2 times higher compared to M1 MacBooks.

The new MacBook Pro is claimed to offer up to 24 hours of battery life. This is four more hours than M1 models and 14 extra hours compared to older Intel-based MacBooks.
