British content creator admits girl hurt during fireworks in city

NEW DELHI: Controversy erupted online after a video showing British content creator and streamer Sam Pepper allegedly firing firecrackers at a group of children and injuring one on Monday night. The 36-year-old creator later admitted on social media that he accidentally injured a young girl during a “Diwali fireworks mishap”.In the clip, Pepper is seen standing with a group of children before aiming a rocket firecracker towards another group and shouting “headshot.” Moments later, he is confronted by a man who tells him that he has blinded a girl in one eye. Pepper responding that it was an accident and that they were just playing.Following the outrage, Pepper addressed the incident on social media platform X, writing, “Was in India tonight with another big group firing small firecrackers back and forth at each other. Seems stupid now I’m writing this. But one of the group on the other side got hit by a cracker I shot and got a cut above their eyebrow. I feel terrible — we sent someone with them to get checked out, covered all costs, they got a paper stitch, and are now back home.”Many social media users condemned the influencer’s reckless behaviour during the Diwali festivities and demanded that action be taken against him. The video also allegedly prompted his suspension from multiple streaming platforms.Police are verifying the details of the incident.
