After massive rescue operation for almost 36 hrs, 6-year-old boy’s body found in 50 feet well in Agra

AGRA: A six-year-old boy, who allegedly slipped and fell into a 50-feet-deep water-filled village well while trying to retrieve his football around 11am in Agra on Friday, was found dead late on Saturday — almost 36 hours after a massive search operation by expert divers and rescue teams.ACP Ram Pravesh Gupta told TOI: “An NDRF team from Ghaziabad was called in on Saturday evening. They spotted the child’s body in the well… We did everything possible. But there was heavy silt at the bottom and the water level was rising continuously.”An official, present at the site, said, “The decades-old well had no proper boundary wall. It was very deep and almost half of it had water. Also, there is a river flowing just 300 metres away. Hence, draining the well was proving difficult. In fact, 10-15 bighas of farmland have been flooded due to continuous pumping. Rescue teams tried to enter the narrow well shaft, but mud, silt and rising water pressure slowed the entire process.According to locals, the incident took place at Bakanda Khas village in Agra’s Kiraoli area on Friday morning when Ram Gopal, a farmer, took his son Rihansh to the crop field. Rihansh fell into the well while playing football alone. Villagers later spotted the floating ball inside the well, confirming their worst fears. Soon after, local police, fire brigade personnel and district administration teams reached the spot.Divers from the PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) and specialised SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) teams, equipped with oxygen cylinders and large pumps, repeatedly attempted to descend, but pressure from below and thick silt hindered their efforts. The heartbreaking incident left the village in shock, with hundreds gathering at the well site even as the rescue attempts were ongoing.
