Bomb scare: Hyderabad airport receives threat email; IndiGo flight diverted after LTTE-ISI blast warning

HYDERABAD: Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad received a bomb threat email early Saturday morning, leading authorities to divert an IndiGo flight. The threat email, received at 5.25am on November 1, 2025, claimed LTTE-ISI operatives were planning a major blast involving nerve gas and IEDs.The email was sent to the airport’s customer support from an individual identified as Papaita Rajan, according to news agency ANI. “On 01.11.2025 at about 0535 hrs, a message was received from APOC that an email was received at RGIA Customer Support RGIA.Customersupport@gmrgroup.in from email ID Papaita Rajan at 05.25 hrs with Subject: Prevent landing of IndiGO 68 to Hyderabad.”The threat message detailed specific plans for an attack. “Onboard LTTE-ISI operatives have planned a major 1984 Madras Airport Modus Operandi style blast on impact at the RGIA Port Fuselages and Fuel tanks fixed with microbots. The IEDs will contain potent nerve gas. Frankfurt operation a test to study remedies. Please read steganographic document below for IED location details, read between lines.”The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee met virtually from 5.39am to 6.22am and classified it as a specific threat.The airport official outlined the committee’s decisions: “Subsequently, the committee decided the following:- The flight shall be diverted to the nearest airport.- The Captain of the flight shall be informed through ATC.- The Captain shall confirm the airport of landing.- A police complaint shall be lodged by GMR Security.”In a separate development, IndiGo Airlines announced new direct flights between Bengaluru and Riyadh, starting November 16. The airline will operate Airbus A320 aircraft on this route to provide affordable connectivity.Riyadh becomes the second Saudi Arabian city after Jeddah to have direct connections with Bengaluru. IndiGo currently operates flights to four Saudi Arabian cities – Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, and Madinah.
