Many devotees had been waiting for hours, and the sudden surge led to severe overcrowding and panic. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, and authorities warned the death toll could rise as some victims remain in critical condition.Authorities said an investigation has been ordered to determine the cause of the stampede and assess crowd management measures at the temple.
